Airport Transfers

Day 1 - London - Amsterdam (2 nights) Today we begin our European holiday! So slug down a coffee, munch on some breakfast and head down to Dover and across the Channel to France. On into Belgium, and towards scores of turning windmills against vast expanses of sky we arrive in Holland and friendly Amsterdam. Here we enjoy a welcome drink with fellow passengers before a wonderful introduction to the city this evening on an included canal cruise in a glass-topped boat for a dinner of Indonesian specialities in a floating restaurant. Day 2 - Amsterdam orientation & at leisure Amsterdam orientation & at leisure Orientation of the city includes Dam Square, the Tower of Tears and a diamond-cutting factory, set against a backdrop of canals, barges and bikes! Then you are free to explore – the museums, the 'brown' bars and the antique shops. Day 3 - Amsterdam - Rhine Cruise - Rhineland (Ludwigshafen) We travel into Germany to the River Rhine and to Boppard. Here we embark on a scenic Rhine cruise. Perhaps sip on a Riesling, as we sail past ancient castles perched on vine-terraced hillsides. Admire the statue of Lorelei, the nymph who, according to legend, would lure young men to their death! Tonight, enjoy dinner in a local tavern and perhaps try some of that great German beer! (Buffet Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)

Day 4 - Rhineland (Ludwigshafen) - Heidelburg - Munich First to the 'Student Prince' city of Heidelberg, where we admire the Castle and have time in the pedestrian quarter. Then on via Stuttgart and through the Swabian Hills to Bavaria's lively capital, Munich. Here orientation shows us the Marienplatz, Olympic Stadium and of course the famous Hofbräuhaus, the world's most famous beer hall which you may wish to visit later this evening (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 5 - Munich - Innsbruck - Venice (Mestre) (2 nights) Our stop this morning is Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol where we see the Golden Roof and Hofburg Palace. Then through the Brenner Pass into the mountains of the Italian Dolomites, interspersed with imposing castles and fortresses, we drive to magical Venice. This evening, we enjoy dinner in a canal-side restaurant. (Buffet Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)

Day 6 - Venice sightseeing & at leisure We glide past Palladian Palazzos and chugging vaporettos to St. Mark's Square, seeing the Church of San Giorgio, Doges' Palace and St. Mark's Basilica. We witness a demonstration of glass-blowing at an ancient workshop before free time. Maybe take an excursion to one of the many islands of the Lagoon. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 7 - Venice (Mestre) - Rome (2 nights) We travel via Bologna across the rugged Apennines and through Tuscan vineyards and olive groves. Then past Umbrian hilltop towns and ochre landscapes we arrive in Rome. Tonight, we dine in a downtown 'trattoria' and later you may wish to indulge in some nightlife! (Buffet Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)

Day 8 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure Our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide shows us the Colosseum, the Forum and St. Peter's Basilica, in the Vatican. The balance of the day is free to either wander the streets of the medieval city or to wonder at Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel! Tonight, fettucini? spaghetti? tagliatelli? – whatever you choose wash it down with some of the local Frascati – and do as the Romans do! (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 9 - Rome - Siena - Florence (2 nights) After breakfast, its off the highway as we drive through hilly fields of sunflowers to medieval Siena – where banking was invented! More famous today for its excellent cuisine and Palio horse race. Time to shop for ceramics and admire the perfect architecture in the Piazza del Campo. Then it's only a short drive to Florence with its abundance of Renaissance Art, up-to-the-minute fashions and delicious cuisine! Florence is full of fun nightlife, so tonight 'you may like to dance the night away' in one of the 'state-of-the-art' nightclubs. (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 10 - Florence sightseeing & at leisure The only way to really visit this city is with a local guide on foot! Highlights are the marble Duomo, Piazza Signoria with its many sculptures and of course the Basilica of Santa Croce, where so many of Italy's heroes are buried. Today the area around the Basilica is a centre for high quality leather goods and gold jewellery, so it's a great place for shopping! This evening, we'll enjoy some of that fine food at a pizza dinner with wine in one of the city's favourite trattorias. (Buffet Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)
Day 11 - Florence - Pisa - Lucerne (2 nights) A short drive to Pisa for a visit to the Piazza dei Miracoli to see the Leaning Tower and marble Cathedral. Then along the Italian Riviera and past the marble quarries of Carrara we by-pass Milan and drive through the Italian Lake District. Crossing Lake Lugano in Switzerland we ascend into the Alps via the St. Gotthard. The lake of Lucerne is resplendent before us majestic snow-capped peaks reflected in its cool, deep turquoise waters. This evening, why not join in the fun of a Swiss Folklore show? (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 12 - Lucerne orientation & at leisure Today see the Lion Monument and Chapel Bridge on our orientation tour. Then plenty of time for shopping for chocolates, clocks, watches, woodcarvings and more! Later, you may wish to take a trip up Mount Pilatus and enjoy the best view possible over the surrounding Alps. Tonight, enjoy a dinner of Swiss cuisine in a local restaurant. Day 13 - Lucerne - Paris (2 nights) Today we're heading for the 'Grand Finale' as we enter France. Through the Jura Mountains, we drive into wine-producing Burgundy with its picturesque villages to the world's most elegant city – Paris. Tonight stroll along the banks of the Seine, enjoy a romantic dinner in a bistro in the Latin Quarter or simply soak up the Bohemian atmosphere of Montmartre – the possibilities are endless! Day 14 - Paris sightseeing & at leisure Today's morning sightseeing tour features the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe among other great monuments! Later, maybe visit the luxurious Palace of Versailles or admire the Art in the Louvre. This evening, we enjoy an included illuminations tour of the city. For those who wish to party late at one of the popular clubs such as 'Les Bains Douches', or to enjoy the late dinner show at one of the traditional Parisian Cabarets. Day 15 - Paris - London A poignant end to our tour as we drive across the Somme Battlefields to Calais, where we cruise across the channel to the White Cliffs of Dover. A short drive brings us back to London. (Buffet Breakfast) |
